This is a bit of a geeky post so bear with me. I’ve just managed to get my website to hit the 100 mark on Google PageSpeed Insights. For web designers this is like getting three bells on your local pub’s fruit machine.
PageSpeed Insights is a Google tool that shows you how your website is performing. It marks it for speed, accessibility, best practices and SEO (search engine optimisation).
Recently I migrated my website over to WordPress from Perch. When I started developing with WordPress I thought it’d be a challenge to match Perch’s lightweight output. Thankfully it turned out to be fairly easy. In fact after migrating my website I ended up with something that was faster.
I’m using three plug-ins that have made a real difference. The TinyPng plug-in keeps my media library optimised and Jetpack features some really useful one click optimisations. I also use the Yoast SEO plug-in which has helped me to write better content.
Website performance is something I take really seriously. It’s a bit of an obsession and a key part of my design and development process. For me how a website performs is as important as how it looks.
Back in 2019 I wrote a longer post that you might find useful. It talks about the things you can do as a website owner to speed up your website.
If you’ve got a WordPress website that‘s a little on the slow side get in touch and I’ll see if I can help. It might just need a few little tweaks to really get it firing!
